Joan is the second of five children born of James Joseph Washington, Sr. and Mildred S. Washington. Wayne Brooks, Sr. is the seventh of eight children born to James and Hattie Brooks. Joan met Wayne in 1972. They were joined in marriage on March 21, 1975 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. They have four (4) children -- Monte Gibbs, Annette, Wilma and Brooks (a/k/a Wayne Brooks Jr.). Brooks died at the tender age of 12 1/2. He is playing with the Angels now. Wayne joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church when he was nine years old. Joan, Annette and Wilma joined Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in May 1980. When Joan was baptized she had no idea that she was pregnant with "little Brooks". He gave us 12 1/2 years of good memories. Joan teaches Sunday School (adult class) three months out of the year. Her hobbies include doing things with her hands (loves working

on projects), she also sings with the Senior Choir, she loves Praising the Lord because He is truly worthy to be Praised. She is a former member of the family singing group known as God's Messengers. They no longer sing together but she really misses that. She also regularly attends Bible Study on Wednesday nights. Joan is a loving mother, grandmother and wife. Wayne loves to fish, plant flowers, work on projects, mounts fish (taxidermy). He is also a practical joker and he likes to play jokes on people. He is a loving father, grandfather and husband. They recently celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary. They love doing things with the kids and grandkids. They spoil us and we spoil them just being together. |
