| Mildred
S. Washington married James J. Washington, Sr. on January 2, 1947
in Markham, Virginia at the home of her mother and father, Virginia
Summers and Lewis Summers, Sr. Their
loving union produced five children: Barbara, Joan, Brenda, Millie
(a/k/a Jo), and James (a/k/a Jimmy or James J. Washington, Jr.).
Both Mildred and James,
Sr. joined the Mt. Morris Baptist Church in 1973. Dad and Mom both
were busy workers in the church. Dad was a member of the Deacon
Board, and Mom was a Deaconess. (Deacons and Deaconesses help with
the Communion and lead church devotions. In addition, Deacons serve
on the Church Trustee Board.) They were also members of the Senior
Choir and the Second Sunday Choir. Mom taught Sunday School. Many
youth remember that she also taught crafts during Vacation Bible
School and was also a Youth Advisor.

Dad is now singing with the angels; however
Mom is still here, and still serving God at the Guildfield Baptist
Church. She is one of the Mothers of the Church. For those of you
not familiar with what a Mother of the Church does, here is a short
description: a Mother of the Church is responsible for providing
spiritual guidance to the youth of the church. She is a trusted
counselor for troubled souls, and when people have questions, they
seek her advice.
Mom still sings in a group called "The
Sisters of the Cross." She also is a Deaconess at Guildfield
Baptist Church and continues to teach Sunday School there.
When she is not at church, Mom enjoys
participating in the activities at the local Senior Center.
